We’ve been raised to think money can make us safe and secure. Because we have it wired with literally staying alive, when the numbers in our accounts go down we freak the fu*k out.
We get desperate to sell more, work more, pursue more, more, more.
Low numbers bring out our Inner Gollum.
My Dad worked himself right into a replapse that ultimately killed him as he relentlessly pursued more.
There is no magic number in the bank that will keep you safe from life life-ing. Enough is never enough when your system is running this kind of programming.
If you're still struggling with money, address survival fears.
Too many of us have money wired to our literal safety and survival.
We react to not enough money (however we define that), the same as not enough oxygen.
Try this exercise:
Breathe through a straw.
Notice how barely enough oxygen creates tension, then anxiety, then desperation for more.
Notice any parallels to your deep feelings about money.
Start unwinding here first. Money cannot keep you safe. You could argue that money gives you more choices and options.
For example, people without money aren’t as able to evacuate from hurricane paths. Or fly to another country to get an abortion. Or eat organic foods, locally farmed.
Granted there are aspects where money gives you more access, but I will argue, it doesn’t make you safe from harm, it doesn’t protect you from shit.
People eating organic foods still die from cancer.
People without money do and don’t evacuate, and people evacuate and die in a car crash on the very highway they were using to flee a danger zone.
People fly to another country for an abortion and die in a plane crash or get a sloppy doctor and develop sepsis.
My belabored point is what gives you safety is you.
Trying to build wealth so you can feel safe and secure is building a house on shifting sand.
Safety is a state of mind and energy that you create for yourself.
Inner Safety protects your body and brain. A relaxed human being is open to inspiration, miralces and synchrocities that put you in the right place at the right time with the right people to find safety when you need it, money when you need it, and it creates the glowiest health.
Relaxed people glow and we all know it. But we can’t glow when we’re Gollum-ing.
If you trusted that no matter what, you'd be OK - even unto death - the fears of not having enough dissolve.
Notice what you’ve go tangled up with money. Look at your numbers and notice how you feel.
Describe it, breathe deeply and notice where you feel it - stomach, lower belly, throat, heart?
In the act of identifying this tangle happening you have already begun the journey of separating survival and money.
Keep exploring. Let me know what you find!
