It's a tricky thing to accept what is, to surrender to the reality and yet resist.
This is the path we're on. For whatever reason our country allowed a madman back into the White House.
I guess the damage done the first time around wasn't enough? SMH.
To fight and argue over what is, wastes energy. We take our moments to rage and grieve and then we accept.
We accept that this is the truth.
We don't drive ourselves crazy with blame, regrets, and recrimination.
We surrender to redirect our energy to resist.
Surrender is not a passive act, it's an honest one but it doesn't mean we stop standing up for people's rights to reproductive freedoms and paths to citizenship and no book bans.
Interesting isnt it that those who scream the loudest against censorship want to burn the most books?
We resist by saving our energy for the battles where we do have influence. We continue to educate the younger ones why voting matters. We refuse to stop calling out hypocrisy. We keep writing and creating and singing.
In these ways, we surrender to today's truth AND we resist the idea that it's a permanent truth.
I'm actually grateful that as a species we tend to move toward irrational and unreasonable hope.
I'm grateful to have read so many books about those who quietly, and not so quietly, fought against oppressive regimes.
They give me hope and a plan.
We can allow anger to generate creative solutions.
We can allow fear to fuel courage.
We can allow the rains of sorrow to nuture seeds of hope and keep the doors to our hearts from sealing themselves shut.
We can surrender to what is and resist the pull to collapse into it.
We can, we will, Resist.
XO,
LMW
I am accepting, without surrendering. I will persist in refusing to surrender my own values, regardless of whether they’re majority or minority views. I will express my values and my beliefs through action. I will avoid ignorance and hate but confront it when its unavoidable, damn the consequences.
